Carvana and CarMax sell cars at a set price, with no haggling. Local dealers set their own prices and often negotiate. Which is cheaper depends entirely on the car, so the only way to know is to compare the same car.

How each one prices

Carvana: online, delivered to your door. Set price, plus shipping or delivery fees in some cases. 7-day return window.
CarMax: set price, large inventory, can transfer cars between stores (sometimes for a fee). Return window and optional extended warranty.
Local dealers: prices vary widely, from well below market to well above. Most negotiate, and fees vary.

Which is cheaper?

Sometimes the no-haggle price is fair; sometimes a local dealer is thousands less for the same car. You're paying for convenience and a return window. Decide what that's worth, then compare real numbers.

How to compare fairly

Same car: year, trim, drivetrain, similar miles, clean history.
Total price: Carvana and CarMax show fees at checkout; get the local dealer's out-the-door price.
Count the extras: delivery, transfer fees, warranty or return window.
