The 2023 redesign brought a bigger cabin and a more upscale hybrid lineup. Check the table: if a 2023 costs little more than a 2022 near you, the newer model may be worth it. If the gap is big, a 2020–2022 is the better value.

Which CR-V to look for
- 2017–2022 (5th generation): LX, EX, EX-L and Touring. The hybrid arrived for 2020. LX uses a 2.4-liter engine; EX and up use a 1.5-liter turbo.
- 2023 and later (6th generation): LX, EX and EX-L with the gas engine; Sport, Sport-L and Sport Touring are hybrids.
- AWD or FWD: both are common, and AWD costs more. Make sure you're comparing the same drivetrain.
Where CR-V buyers overpay
- Hybrid versus gas. The hybrid trims cost more. Compare a hybrid with other hybrids.
- AWD mix-ups. A FWD CR-V priced like an AWD one is a common overpay. Check the drivetrain in the listing or with a VIN lookup.
- 2017–2018 1.5 turbo. Some owners in cold climates reported oil dilution; Honda issued software updates and extended warranty coverage. Ask whether the work was done.
- Add-ons and fees. Ask for the out-the-door price before you visit.

2020–2022 offers the most for the money: modern safety, the option of a hybrid, and lower prices than the 2023 redesign.
Is the CR-V Hybrid worth it used?
If you drive a lot, often yes: it's quicker and more efficient. Just compare it with other hybrids, because it carries a higher price.
