- 2017–2021: Sport, Touring, Grand Touring, Grand Touring Reserve and Signature. A 2.5 turbo arrived for 2019 on top trims.
- 2022 and later: new names: 2.5 S, S Select, S Preferred, S Carbon Edition, S Premium, S Premium Plus, and the turbo versions. AWD became standard.
- Touring (older) and S Preferred (newer) are the most common.
Where CX-5 buyers overpay
- Trim name confusion. A 2021 Touring and a 2022 S Preferred are roughly comparable; a Grand Touring is a step up. Check the features, not just the badge.
- Turbo versus non-turbo. The turbo costs more. Compare the same engine.
- FWD versus AWD (before 2022). Older CX-5s came both ways.
