- Versions: Standard Range Plus (later called Rear-Wheel Drive), Long Range (dual-motor AWD) and Performance.
- 2021 and later cars got a heat pump (better winter range) and other updates.
- 2024 and later ("Highland"): a refreshed design with a quieter cabin; priced higher.

- Version mix-ups. Listings often just say "Model 3." Range and price differ a lot between versions. Check the VIN or the car's screen.
- Software claims. Features like Full Self-Driving are tied to the car's account and aren't always included when a car is resold. Confirm with the seller in writing.
- Battery health. Ask for a battery report or check the car's estimated range at full charge against its original rating.
- Paying for a "deal" that isn't. Used EV prices have dropped quickly; a price that looked good six months ago may not be now.
